Widow sues DuPont over husband's asbestos exposure

A Hardin County woman has filed an asbestos suit on behalf of her recently deceased husband against E.I. Du Pont De Nemours, claiming his asbestos-related disease was wrongfully caused.
Helen Veigh Conn claims Elray Conn died from the disease Aug. 26, according to a lawsuit filed Nov. 12 in Jefferson County District Court.
Helen says her husband worked for Du Pont at its Beaumont Works facility, according to the lawsuit.
Helen states Elray was exposed to toxic and carcinogenic dusts, including asbestos, during his work, according to the lawsuit.
She claims the company failed to timely warn workers of the dangers of the dusts.
Helen alleges the asbestos-related disease caused the couple to incur substantial medical costs. Elray also has experienced great physical pain and mental anguish as a result of the disease, Helen claims in the lawsuit.
The disease forced Elray to lose his earning capacity and caused disfigurement and punitive damages, according to the complaint.
Helen claims she suffered mental anguish, loss of consortium, loss of society, loss of services, loss of support, loss of inheritance, pecuniary loss and punitive damages.
Helen seeks unspecified exemplary and punitive damages, plus interest at the legal rate and other relief the court deems just.
She is represented by Darren L. Brown of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
