Matrix employee claims termination due to injury claim

A former Matrix Corp. employee has filed suit against the company, alleging he was fired because he claimed workers' compensation benefits.

Roy Ariola was injured while working at his job on Nov. 1, 2006, and was taken to the company doctor who placed him on light duty, according to the complaint filed Dec. 2 in Jefferson County District Court.

After Matrix told Ariola there were no light duty positions, he was terminated on Nov. 27, 2006, the suit states.

"Such termination was an act of retaliation against Plaintiff for pursuing workers' compensation," the suit states.

Because of his termination, Ariola claims he has suffered emotional pain and suffering, inconvenience, mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life.

Ariola is seeking a judgment in the minimum jurisdictional limits, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which he may be entitled.

Clint Brasher of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson of the 60th District Court.
