Golden Corral sued after woman slips in buffet line

A Dallas County woman has filed suit against Golden Corral, alleging she was seriously injured after she fell in a puddle of water on the floor of the restaurant.

Cynthia Trigg was eating at the Beaumont Golden Corral off Interstate 10 on April 1, 2007, when the incident occurred, according to the complaint filed Jan. 26 in Jefferson County District Court.

"Plaintiff was injured when, while walking in Defendant's restaurant, she slipped on a puddle of streaming water on the floor near a buffet line," the suit states. "At the time of Plaintiff's fall, water was seen streaming out from underneath a kitchen door."

Because of her fall, Trigg claims she sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Due to her torn ACL, Trigg developed a blood clot and was placed on medication to control the blood clot, according to the complaint.

However, Trigg is not allowed to undergo surgery to repair her torn ACL because of the blood clot medication, the suit states.

The fall caused Trigg to suffer physical pain, mental anguish, lost earnings, a damage to her earning capacity, physical impairment, disfigurement and she has incurred medical expenses, she claims.

According to the suit, Golden Corral was negligent by:

  • Failing to inspect its premises on a regular basis;
  • Failing to adequately dry the floor;
  • Failing to place signs warning invitees of the wet floor;
  • Failing to make the premises safe with the use of mats;
  • Failing to instruct or train its agents, servants and employees to maintain a hazard-free environment; and
  • Failing to supervise it agents to ensure the safety of its customers.

    Trigg is seeking unspecified actual damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she is entitled.

    She will be represented by Aaron A. Herbert of the Rad Law Firm in Dallas.

    The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson of the 60th District Court.

    Case No. B183-123
