Tax Day Tea Parties are being organized in approximately 300 cities across the country on April 15, to protest excessive taxation and government policy. The local Tea Party will be held at 5 p.m. at the Walden Post Office, 5815 Walden Road, Beaumont. In February, the first Tea Party, above, was held in Chicago with more than 500 protesters who marched from the Daley Plaza to the Tribune Tower.
In the original spirit of the American Revolution, thousands of citizens across the country are holding "tea parties" to protest government policies and excessive taxation.
More than 300 cities, including Beaumont, will host Tax Day Tea Parties on April 15.
The local Tea Party will be held at 5 p.m. at the U.S. Post Office, 5815 Walden Road, Beaumont.
The Tax Day Tea Party is a collaborative grassroots effort organized by Smart Girl Politics, Top Conservatives on Twitter, the DontGo Movement and many other online groups and coalitions.
The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air editor for CNBC, set out on a rant against the liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress. Specifically, the "Stimulus Bill" and pork filled budget.
During Rick's rant, he called for a "Chicago tea Party" where advocates of the free-market system could join in a protest against out of control government spending.
A few days later, grassroots activists and average Americans began organizing what would soon become the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party effort.
On Feb. 27, an estimated 30,000 Americans took to the street in more than 40 cities accross the country in the first nationwide "Tea Party" protest.
Organizers of the Feb. 27 events pledged to continue the efforts with an even bigger and better protest.
With April 15th being "Tax Day", it was decided to schedule the second round of Tea Party protests to ride alongside the tax deadline.
