9/21/2010 11:57 AM By John Suayan, Galveston Bureau

GALVESTON - A Harris County seaman has filed suit against Maersk Inc. and Maersk Lines Ltd. over injuries he reportedly sustained last year while working on one of the their ships.

In a lawsuit filed Sept. 15 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas, Santos Guevara of Channelview says that he hurt himself on Nov. 21, 2009, as he tried to complete a task aboard the Maersk Tennessee.

Guevara claims the condition of the vessel was unsafe, which caused him to suffer permanent bodily injuries.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

Guevara seeks unspecified monetary damages for physical pain, mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses. Jury trial is requested.

He is represented by attorney Harold Eisenman of Houston.

The case has been assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt.

Case No. 3:10-cv-00369
