Son mows over downed power line, mother sues Entergy

Two years ago while mowing the lawn, Quantae Conner rolled over a downed power line, causing electricity to course through his body.

On Feb. 2 his mother, Shelly Conner, filed suit against Entergy Texas in Jefferson County District Court, claiming the company's workers failed to repair the line following Hurricane Ike.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 21, 2009, Quantae rolled his father's lawn mower over a power line hidden by long grass while mowing the back yard of his Port Arthur home.

The shock was so bad he had to be rushed to the hospital. the suit states.

The Conner family had moved into the home in December 2008. Allegedly, the previous owner had seen utility workers in the area two months prior and reported the downed line, but the workers went to lunch and never returned, the suit alleges.

The plaintiffs contend Entergy had a duty to hire and train competent workers to repair the damage caused by Hurricane Ike.

Shelly Conner is suing for loss of parental consortium, property damages and her son's medical expenses.

Quantae Conner is suing for his loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish and fear of future disease or condition.

Port Arthur attorney Antoine Freeman represents them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, has been assigned to the case.
