Man sues after experiencing allergic reaction to latex condom

TEXARKANA, Texas - A self-proclaimed lifelong condom user has filed a lawsuit that alleges a Trojan lubricated condom caused severe allergic contact dermatitis, which has spread from his head to his toes.

Basil A. Rasheed of Texarkana filed suit against Church & Dwight Co. Inc. on March 14 in the Eastern District of Texas, Texarkana Division.

The plaintiff states he developed irritation and infection after using a Trojan lubricated condom which he purchased from a machine in a service station bathroom. He states the product caused allergic contact dermatitis or a latex reaction, which resulted in severe blisters and prominent disfigurement.

"This chemical cooked my testicles and penis," Rasheed stated in the pro se lawsuit.

Rasheed, 63, states he has used similar condoms for the past 46 years without incident and that he has also used latex gloves and paint without incident.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

Rasheed is asking for more than $777,000 in compensatory and punitive damages for mental anguish, emotional stress and "prominent disfiguring."

Rasheed is acting as his own attorney and is requesting a jury trial.

U.S. District Judge David Folsom is assigned to the case.
