A Port Arthur has filed a lawsuit against the woman who allegedly shut a door on her.

Annie Sinegal filed a lawsuit May 24 in Jefferson County District Court against Fannie Thomas.

Sinegal claims she worked as a caretaker for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Thomas, and was performing her job duties at their home on Jan. 13, 2010, when the incident occurred.

"Defendant, Fannie Thomas, was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Thomas and as she was exiting the home she accidentally shut the door in an unsafe and forceful manner on Mrs. Thomas," the suit states. "Plaintiff, Annie Sinegal, caught the door to prevent it from striking Mrs. Thomas resulting in the injuries and damages complained of herein."

Because of the incident, Sinegal sustained physical pain, suffering and mental anguish and lost her earning capacity, according to the complaint. In addition, she experienced physical impairment and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Sinegal blames Fannie Thomas for causing her injuries, saying Fannie Thomas negligently shut the door in an unsafe and forceful manner, failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to monitor Mrs. Thomas' location.

In her complaint, Sinegal seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
