Asbestos suit blames Texaco for man's mesothelioma, death

Parks

The family of the late Ronald Decuir have filed suit against their benefactor's former employer, Texaco, alleging the oil giant maliciously exposed him to asbestos.

Shirley Hulin Decuir and her children filed the suit Aug. 24 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, during Ronald Decuir's employment at Texaco's Port Arthur refinery, he was exposed to asbestos dust and fibers.

As a result, he developed mesothelioma and died on June 27, court papers say.

The suit accuses Texaco of knowing that asbestos exposure can cause cancer but still allowed employees, such as Ronald, to work with asbestos products.

The plaintiffs claim Texaco acted with malice and are seeking to recover exemplary damages from the company

Beaumont attorney D'Juana Parks of the Provost Umphrey Law Firm represents them.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
