GALVESTON - A Jefferson County woman is suing a Louisiana man over a motorcycle crash last year which reportedly resulted in the amputation of her leg.
Krystle Durrett's lawsuit against Westlake, La., resident Mike A. Prudhomme alleges Prudhomme operated his bike with her as his passenger on June 27, 2010, in a manner that caused the incident..
Court papers were filed Dec. 5 in Galveston County District Court.
According to the original petition, Prudhomme "accelerated his speed at a high rate and popped a wheelie and continued south."
"The defendant attempted to pass another vehicle and in the process of doing so lost control of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway," the suit says.
"The plaintiff was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered severe personal injuries, including the loss of a leg from the hip, as well as other serious injuries."
Durrett insists that Prudhomme "had actual, subject awareness of the risk involved in the above described acts or omissions, but nevertheless proceeded with conscious indifference to the rights, safety or welfare of the plaintiff and others."
Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
Attorney P. Dean Brinkley of Beaumont is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox is presiding over the case.
