Demetrick Trevel Ford sues City of Houston Police Department for car collision caused by negligence

The City of Houston Police Department and its employee, Daniel Joseph Shurtleff, are facing a lawsuit filed by Demetrick Trevel Ford in the District Court of Harris County. The case, with the court ID 2024-1 8398, was filed on March 22, 2024.

Ford alleges that he suffered significant damages due to a car collision caused by Shurtleff's negligence. On April 22nd at approximately 4:30 pm, Ford was driving his vehicle when he was hit by Shurtleff who ran a red light while speeding. As a result of the impact, Ford experienced sharp continuous pain on the left side of his head, neck, upper and lower back, and left shoulder.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary relief within the jurisdictional limits of the court at $200,000 excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs. He claims that nothing he did contributed to the accident and that it was entirely caused by Shurtleff's negligence in controlling his speed and failing to maintain an assured clear distance between their vehicles.
